You've heard of analysis paralysis, right? As creatives and business owners, I think we often bring that into our work. We take ages to put new work out there because it's not exactly right and we can't stand the idea that done is better than perfect. So we tinker and play and waste time. I do that often.
If you think about it, the more work you put out there, the better you become at your craft and at handling feedback. The more you write, the better you become at writing. The more you create, the easier it becomes. It's just not always that easy to share it with the world.
I want to encourage you today to keep creating, and to keep sharing it with the world. Forget about pleasing everyone. If you're creative by nature, you'll find it hard enough to please yourself, let alone everyone else. The simple act of sharing your work regularly takes the edge off. It becomes easier over time. The more you do it, the easier it is to handle negative feedback or criticism.
Just remember this - if you regularly keep sharing your work you're way ahead of the person on the other side of the internet who criticises you, but doesn't put work out himself.
Today I'd like to share my new website front page with you. The thought of sharing it made me think of this meme:
I wasn't planning on redesigning my site. I was quite happy with the old front page until someone who knows my business inside out told me that he couldn't tell what services I offer by looking at my home page.
That was a bit of a gut punch, to be honest. How could I be confident that website visitors would know what I offer when people who know me couldn't tell by my home page? It took me a while, but I wanted the new design to make it super easy to grasp what I do.
I can almost guarantee that you will know exactly what services I offer when you see the new front page. I say almost, because you never know how someone new will perceive it. So, if you wouldn't mind, I'd love to hear what you think please.
